Friday the 15th was an awesome Friday. First, students took part in their very first Escape the Classroom. Students had to solve problems, figure out riddles, and unlock a lock using a 4 digit code. Each team needed to work together to unlock the treasure. This was a great way for students to have fun and work together in a review type game.
Later on, students performed a play on Ruby Bridges to another classroom. Some students had reading roles, while others set up and broke down the set as the play was going. Students worked with one another in both periods/ classes to succeed. One was an activity for their groups, another was as a class. Your kids are working really hard, lets keep up the momentum. We are Powers Ferry! ** Below is a slide show of Period 2's Escape the classroom. hit play, or click the arrows** I see us doing this again in math, but really want to try science and social studies. Today students discovered the difference between instincts and learned behaviors. We learned that earthworms prefer moist environments and dark environments. Students made and recorded their observations. Once all was said and done, the used what they saw to come up with if worms were following their instincts or if they learned the behavior.
my classGreeting everyone,
All grades have been regularly put into parent VUE. Parent Vue is the online grade book, its a way to keep up with how your child is performing. Today, in my homeroom class I printed progress reports and placed them in the back of student agendas. Please sign the report so I know you have viewed your child's progress in Mrs. Hightower and my classroom. On Monday, I will send home notification to those students who did not meet expectations and failed one or both of their assessments (Math, Social Studies). In order for students to retest, they must return the test and signed notification. Retest will be listed on the sheet for Wednesday 11/13/19 from 7:15- 8:00. If students to do not retest, the initial grade will be kept in the grade book. Next week in math we will be working on multiplying fractions. we are moving on from just adding and subtracting (soooo happy). we are building on what we learned from multiplying whole numbers like 125 x 34 = and multiplying decimals like 34.56 X 3.4 to show 1/2 X "of" 4 or 4 X 1/2. Also, next week we will move back into Science. Science for the next two weeks will deal with learned behaviors, instincts, and heredity. Monday will be fun as we will be working with live worms and seeing how they behave in different environments. This lab usually makes a couple kids squirm. Mr. Tromp |
