Social Studies:
We are wrapping up the 1920's and 30's this Wednesday with our unit test. Students went home with a study guide today that we partially worked on together. Students are to study, and be able to explain everything in their notebooks from chapter 10 lesson 1 to chapter 10 lesson 4. The study guide is only a tool, it is not an answer key, don't let student look only at the study guide and not their notes. On the test, students will need to know all the vocabulary words from each section, as well as be able to explain answers in the extended answer section. Our next section will be on WWII which we will be starting tomorrow. Math: We have worked on discovering what volume is with hands on practice with unit cubes all week. We did not talk about the formula. BUT, that has now changed, I introduced the formula today in class. We will be working all week using the formula with guided lessons, as well as stations. Length x Width x Height --or-- Base x Height ** Please practice multi digit multiplication with your children, as well as running through their math facts. All week this week, work on fact practice. Students need to accurately know their math facts as easy as they can say their name. Forms that went home and reminders. **** INTERNATIONAL NIGHT is this Thursday, a form will go out tomorrow 3/1/16 **** Aquarium field trip is this Thursday 3/3/16 :D **** Year book flyers with pocket for funds went home today.

Parents, over the break I sent home your children's progress reports. Please sign them and have your child return them by this Friday 2/26/16.
Class picture day is this Wednesday, PLEASE DRESS TO IMPRESS :D Temper Tampers in house field trip from WellStar will be this Thursday. HW: Students need to look over their social studies notebooks nightly. It is crucial for students to read and review (The 20's- 30's Great Depression) nightly . Parents, use the notebooks and quiz your children, ask questions and have them explain their answers. Students have been given their vocabulary words for the week. Have them write the words with different fonts, different sizes, biggest to smallest, etc... Have some fun with them. The assessment will be on Friday or Monday Reading logs need to be filled out nightly and monitored for completion. *** If your children have finished the reading log for the 6 flags ticket, please have it returned by Friday in order to have a free ticket to 6 flags. Hello parents, apologies for being as inconsistent as I hoped to be on my blog. Daily, I have been sending home behavior/ reading HW folders that should be signed by parents. One side has the color for students behavior (Blue- exceeds expectations, Green- Meets expectations, Yellow- Does not meet, Orange- teacher choice, and Red- referral), as well as any notes. Inside those folders I have students placing important paper work that parents need to look at. This week there was their progresses reports, Milestone test letters, and a field trip payment deadline sheet. Something else I have done this 9 weeks that I did not do before, is that whenever a student receives a D or lower on an assignment/quiz/test, I have been sending it home to be signed by parents/ guardians. I have noticed a great change ever since implementing that change and will continue to do so for the remainder of the 9 weeks. It's crazy that we are already over half way through the 3rd nine weeks. ** THERE IS ALWAYS HW: Reading and reading log 20 min and filled out. Practicing spelling words (located in agenda), Reviewing Soc Stu. or SCI notes. (we are moving away from open notebooks). Math workbook pages or practice of problems in notebook. NOTEBOOKS SHOULD GO HOME DAILY!!!!! Upcoming Events: We have a scheduled field trip to the Atlanta Aquarium coming up after break. Less than half of the class has returned signed slips and pay. If we are unable to receive the funds (7 dollars) for the trip by the returning Tuesday, the trip will be cancelled. This is potentially the last field trip that the 5th grade students will have this year. Needs: We are in need of class supplies: Erasers, pencils, dry erase markers, colored pencils, Clorox wipes, tissue paper etc… If you need to contact me, please email me at [email protected] and I will get back to you as soon as I am able (same day or next). |
