When? Thursday, August 29th
Time? 4:30-6:30 Where? Delk Rd Kroger. Need groceries? Powers Ferry Elementary School students can help you stick to your budget. They had to do just that during their school’s recent math night at a local Kroger. Third, fourth, and fifth graders were given budgets and a grocery list for the week. They then went on a scavenger hunt through the store looking for the items that would keep them within budget. The Powers Ferry Family Math Night gave students an opportunity to put their math skills to work in the real world. More than 50 Powers Ferry families attended and completed the math scavenger hunt. Kindergartners and first graders went on the hunt for food items of various shapes and compared their sizes. The grade-level assignments related to the mathematics standards being taught in class. Students picked up a bag of treats for completing their real-world assignments. Hello parents and guardians,
Well, we are moving along with the standards and we have already gone over place value, powers of 10, orders of operations, and expressions. 5th grade is no joke! in social studies we have gone over citizen rights which was all about rights and responsibilities, the amendment process with emphasis with specific amendments. Where are we going now? Math: In math we will be moving into Multiplying multi-digit numbers using the standard algorithm. This is the same way we all learned multiplying in school :D Below is a link on youtube if you need a refresher https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hkvxd0x-qQw **** ATTN: Students must know and practice their math facts!!!!!!! We will be there for a week, and then we will have a full week on dividing multi digit numbers. this is a standard that has always been difficult for students. Please be patient and work with them on the skill. Science: Today we started science. In this unit we will be working on constructive and destructive forces for the next 2 1/2 weeks. this unit is all about how our planet changes. Students need to be able to argue their point based on evidence whether a change is constructive, destructive, or both. Graded work and classwork was sent home today with both periods. I instructed students to put the work in their agenda. Soon, when i get grades online i will be printing out weekly progress reports and placing them in the back of student agendas.
Monday we will have two TESTS. One will be a unit test on orders of operations with exponents and powers of 10, and the other will be a unit test on Citizen rights. Today students started working on the study guide. i will post a blank copy online. It is student responsibilities to know the materials. Study, study, study :D Hey parents and guardians,
We are about to finish up the first two weeks of school. We have already had some classwork and quizzes in my subject areas. I have reviewed those items to help better instruct students to help clear up any misconceptions they may have. On Monday we will be having a Unit test in Math and Social Studies. Tests are worth a large percentage of their overall grade as it is what they are building towards. With that said, students will be allowed to retest. HOWEVER,students must study and work harder on their time, not mine, to review and better themselves. Students can retest during the morning before school starts. students will have a 2 week time line to retest. I will not chase them down, but I will give reminders that they can retest. It is up to them to tell me when they will retest and to be prepared. Classwork= no redo Quizzes= No retest, this shows me where they are at that time to help better instruct them Test: Yes retest, 2 week window to complete. but final grades for report cards are final If not on parentvue please get your access numbers to have access to the gradebook. Mr. Tromp Hey parents,
I am still missing communication and clinic forms. I handed out forms to all students who are missing their forms. please sign and return the forms. I will be sending out a mass text soon to all parents to join remind, this is how I will communicate with you. Yesterday I was absent due to me being in an all-day meeting. The sub was impressed by the class and I was thrilled to hear how positive the sub felt about being in a 5th grade class. It can be intimidating and most subs want/ prefer to work with lower grades. So a BBIIGG kudos goes out to the kids. Parents, we are already going on day 4 of school. We are using notebooks, cutting, gluing, and working on content standards. Please make sure that your students have all the supplies needed. If unable, please reach out and we can find resources.
Period 1: The first student to tell me, "Can I please have 20 dojo bucks with a cherry on top" will get 20 dojo dollars. First come first serve. Hello parents, The first day is in the books and was success. Today we started math with a bang, and both periods did very well. I did give homework for the first day, so please check agendas for homework from both periods. Use the homework tab above to check. I will provide the answers for you to check their work today. Tomorrow we will start setting up math and social studies notebooks. Please make sure students have all supplies needed for the classroom. ATTN: I sent home a Cobb county folder, inside is a clinic card, please fill that in and have your child return it ASAP. Also, please fill out the form above by scanning the QR code for parent communication. this will provide me information on how to reach you during the year.
