Parents/ Guardians,
Tomorrow we will be having our very first PTA event and ice cream social here at Powers Ferry Elementary. Please come and support our school. After PTA, we will be having open house. Please come by the room and we will discuss the schedule, review some of the curriculum, and discuss expectations. I would also like to see who would be interested in chaperoning our first field trip later this year as well :D

Parents/ Guardians,
Parent View is fully up to date with all tests, quizzes, and class work. Parent View is the online grade book that you will use to view grades throughout the year. Additionally, I sent students home with the majority of their grades today. However the grades I took today will be sent home next week. Tests: If a student fails a test, they are given an opportunity to retest Monday mornings during Zero Period. Several students (they know who they are) will be retested Monday. Quiz's: Students are NOT allowed to retake a quiz. A quiz is a check on what students know at that time. It's a reflection of them in that moment. Also, for the majority of quizzes, when a student turns it in, I do a quick check and circle answers that need to be fixed. I build in an opportunity for them to correct their mistakes. Continue to check out the homework tab above for exact HW expectations.
Tomorrow we have a busy day. There will be a test with Order of Operations. The cheat or key to order of operations is PEMDAS. Students must follow the order. Repetition is key. Today it clicked with several students. AWESOME! Social Studies. I provided a study guide for the test. This is their first test and its a large grade. Students need to know the branches of Government and their roles, the preamble (and its meaning of individual parts), the first 7 amendments of the Bill of Rights, what responsibilities (civic and personal), and rights are. This is a culmination of every thing we have gone over and discussed over the last 2 and a half weeks. Students should be able to explain everything on the study guide with you in a conversation. Parents, I have noticed that several students are having difficulty with Order of Operations. Please go over their homework with them. Use their notebooks as an aid for assistance. I have links in the resources page, and there are other great Youtube Videos as well. Last week your kids did an amazing job with place value. IT WAS AMAZING!!!! I am striving for a repeat.
Additionally, last week and this week we have been learning about Citizen Rights, the Constitution, the different branches of government and more. It is crucial that you talk with your kids about these concepts. Use their notebooks and ask them questions, if students can not explain to you a term, (ex: why is due process important?) that is a red flag. I provided students with a key vocab sheet. Use that in your discussions. Lastly, I will start to place grades into Synergy soon (tomorrow night). For those of you who have Parent View, you will have automatic access to view your child's grades once they are entered. If you do not have parent view, please stop by the front office for your sign in information.
